Food and Climate Action Agricultural Technologies (FOCAT) is a Kenyan-based organization registered with the Registrar of Non-Governmental Organizations at the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, NGO’s Coordination Board. It is mandated to operate in Uasin-Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties. 

The Genesis of FOCAT

Food insecurity as a result of climate change has become a chronic issue globally and in Kenya causing perennial food shortages. In the year 2022- 2023, severe food shortages caused in excess of 4 million people to require humanitarian assistance. Six Professionals in the areas of agriculture, food security, and climate change formed FOCAT as a non-governmental organization to address the devastating effects of climate change on food security among Kenyan communities.

Our Objectives

FOCAT aims to provide holistic technological transformation to farmers, youth, and women in communities by offering training, exposure, and empowerment using modern climate-smart agricultural innovations, and technologies.

The specific areas are: 

  1. To strengthen the capacity of farming communities through training on modern climate-smart agricultural practices.
  2. To undertake action research on climate-resilient indigenous crops and technologies for sustainable production.
  3.  To document climate-smart and food-secure technological practices and innovations.
  4.  To be a consultant on climate change and food security at the county and national levels.
  5. To promote women and youth-led initiatives in climate-smart agriculture and food security.
  6. To support community-led initiatives with a focus on using sustainable technologies to mitigate climate change and enhance food security.
Our Philosophy
The problems of food insecurity need an integrated, programmatic, and professional approach. Communities should be empowered with the correct knowledge and technologies to enable them to manage their resources for enhanced food security.
